TALKS

An opportunity to hear from some of our most experienced industry professionals offering advice on progressing in the Creative Sector. Each talk is followed by a Q & A.  

(All presentations will be given from the rehearsal space on the third floor in the Arcade.)

ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND

Stephen May, Relationship Manager, gives an overview of what ACE can offer and how to access funding for the arts.

 

1pm - 2.30pm

ANNA BREWIN - Intellectual Property Expert

How to protect your creative ideas.

Intellectual Property refers to creations of the mind, including designs, images and artistic works. Find out how you can protect your own creative works from being ripped off or stolen. 

 

3pm - 3.30pm

INCLUSIVITY & REPRESENTATION IN THE ARTS

Joe Sproulle is an actor with Down’s Syndrome and part of Dark Horse’s ensemble. His credits include Line of Duty, Casualty, and The Gallows Pole. Joe delivers masterclasses in inclusive practice to creative organisations and educational institutions with a theatre profile.  

He’s joined by Dark Horse’s Artistic Director Amy Cunningham, and together they’ll shine a light on the importance of inclusion and diversity in the arts.

ENTERPRISE TOURS

If you are interested in starting your own arts business, why not speak to people who have already succeeded?  We can offer you a short tour around Byram Arcade where you can meet some of the arts business owners. They will offer you advice, tell you three things they wished they’d know before starting plus lots of insider tips.

 

Enterprise tours will start from the front entrance of Byram Arcade at

1pm, 2.30pm & 4pm

CREATIVE ACTIVITIES & TASTER WORKSHOPS

We are offering a menu of creative taster workshops.  Have a go at something new and find out more about the many creative offers within Kirklees, including drama and theatre, arts and crafts and music.

 

Workshops will be held from the third floor, LAB Room
 

12.45pm - The LAB

Find out a bit more about our LAB courses. Thirty minutes of fun, drama based, personal development activities.

1.45pm - West Yorkshire Print Workshop

Join West Yorkshire Print Workshop to get your fingers inky and learn about traditional letterpress printing. You'll get to handle historic type blocks and learn how to use a traditional printing press, to create your very own mini print!

2.45pm - Chol Theatre - Imaginary Communities Introduction Workshop

Discover the magic of Imaginary Communities, Chol Theatre's flagship story-making process with co-creation at its heart. Imaginary Communities enables every participant to co-create an imaginary world; taking on their own unique character to explore their ideas through setting, characters and plot.

 

Chol is a dynamic and socially conscious theatre company based in Yorkshire. We work with children and young people from early years to early career. Our approach is entirely collaborative, working in everyday community and educational settings to co-create stories that are rooted in communities and local heritage.
